Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Hiebuhr

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference.

"If" by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Irish Beer Prayer - Author Unknown

Here's to a long life, and a merry one,
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and a true one.
A cold beer ...
... and another one

Look To This Day - Ancient Sanskrit Poem

Look to this day:
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendour of achievement
Are but experiences of time.

For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision;
And today well-lived, makes
Yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day;
Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn!

Be Ye Faithful Unto This Day - Ancient Sanskrit Poem

Be ye faithful unto this day.
In its brief course lie all the realities and truths of existence.
For yesterday is but a memory and tomorrow a dream.
Be ye faithful therefore unto this day.

Take Time - Author Unknown

Take time to work - it is the price of success.
Take time to think - it is the source of power.
Take time to play - it is the secret of perpetual youth.
Take time to read - it is the fountain of wisdom.
Take time to be friendly - it is the road to happiness
Take time to dream - it is your highway to the stars.
Take time to give - it is too short a day to be selfish.
Take time to laugh - it is the music of the heart.
Take time to love & be loved - it is nourishment for the soul.

An Irish Nun's Prayer on Aging - Author Unknown

Lord thou knowest, better than I know myself that I am growing older, and will someday be old.
Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject, and on every occasion.
Release me from trying to straighten out everybody's affairs.
Make me thoughtful but not moody: helpful but not bossy,
With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all, but Thou knowest Lord that I want a few friends at the end.
Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details, Give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They are increasing and love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by.
I dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy the tales of others pains, but help me to endure them with patience.
I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing humility, and a lessening of cocksureness, when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.
Keep me reasonably sweet. I do not want to be a saint - some of them are so hard to live with - but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see good in unexpected places, and talent in unexpected people, and the grace to tell them so.

The Star Spangled Banner - Francis Scott Keyes (shortened)

"Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight'
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"
